Harry, Phoebe, Gucci, tank tops = utter joy
And who doesn’t love (and require) a dollop of joy?
I have NEVER thought I’d be playing a Harry Styles video on repeat but I simply love everything about this. I even woke up with the song in my head this morning which was well weird. I love a glorious and unexpected collaboration and the pairing of Harry and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (fast forward to fully venerated, knighted, damed and everything else national treasure in ten years, surely, the woman can do no wrong) a) dancing together and b) dancing a CHARLESTON and c) in Gucci TANK TOPS is just too good and joyful not to talk about.
I love what the collaboration does for both of them. It smacks of both transcending their increasingly multi-hyphenate fields still further, arriving in the camps of ‘whatever they are involved with it will be cool’. It’s a slightly unexpected combination which makes it even better. But they are the same height, same build, similar level of androgyny, similar hair goddammit and the combination - I think - makes both of them even cooler.
And Harry Styles has become something of a style revelation for me recently. I mean, I was way too old for One Direction fandom so really didn’t get it. But I love his Gucci collaboration, his exuberant wearing of colour, his genderless approach to fashion and clothing. He has made some conversations about gender easier to have, actually, in recent times.
And Sir/Dame/Queen Phoebe needs little exalting over. She is simply amazing and I love her. Fact.
And yes sure, releasing a song about being kind to people, once could cynically feel, could be just too much clickbait for us all right now. But WHO CARES! Kindness is great, the song is joyful and pretty catchy. And it has Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the video. In a tank top!
A final word on the tank tops. Arguably the real stars of the show. Being Gucci and glittery and matching. I really really love them. I’ve been eyeing them up as a concept for a while but hell yeah, after this, I’m getting on that bandwagon. With joy.
